Thanks to everyone who took part in the first ever Bantry Bay Adventure Race – you helped us to raise funds for some amazing local organisations
Proceeds from the inaugural Bantry Bay Adventure Race were presented to Cancer Connect, Bantry Inshore Rescue Association, and the Whiddy Island Development Association at The Bantry Bay this December.
Each organisation benefitted from a donation of €1000, and the great success of the event means that plans are already in place to stage it again in 2017.
The adventure race drew over 100 enthusiastic runners, kayakers, and cyclists to Bantry in August 2016 to compete in a three-part challenge that took in Whiddy Island, Bantry Bay, and the Sheep’s Head peninsula. The route followed a new 5k Sheep’s Head Way walking route on Whiddy Island. After running on the island, participants kayaked a stretch of the Bantry Blueway before cycling a stretch of the Sheep’s Head Way cycling route.
The event was kindly sponsored by the Bantry Bay Port Company, The Edge Sports Shop, Cork Sports Partnership, and Zenith Energy, and it drew on fantastic support from local businesses, community groups, and volunteers too.
The second Bantry Bay Adventure Race will take place on 26th August 2017, and pre-registration for the event can be completed at http://bantrybayadventurerace.com/registration
